The Korean streaming market has grown exponentially in the last 20 years as the interaction between the viewer and steamer has intermingled seamlessly. Korean startup Master.gg has created a platform for viewers and streamers to interact and help streamers grow their channels and earn more money.

New monetization tools for gaming streamers

The company, founded by Charlie Rhee in 2019, has introduced two main monetization tools for gaming streamers – Donation solutions and Fanboards. Donations are part of the streaming experience, where viewers send cash donations to the streamers.

Master.gg is also continuing to develop new donation types like mission donations and roulette donations. Mission donations are where viewers send a dare, or challenge, or a request to the streamer and reward them with cash donation if they successfully complete it. The missions can range from a specific weapon-only challenge or singing a song, fighting against another streamer or donating to a charity. Roulette donations are pre-set actions that is chosen at random. Viewers can send them, and a spinning slot machine like action shows on the screen where the action is randomly selected. The streamer then has to perform the action. All actions are pre-screened as it is the streamer who inputs the action and their probabilities in their settings. There are other new donation methods in the development stage, and it is through donations that viral moments are created when an unexpected interaction with fans happens.

A new way to interact and engage between Streamers and Viewers

The other service is a Fanboards where fans/viewers can interact with fellow fans and get updates on the schedule of the games as well as share information. Fanboards is an online community forum like a Reddit for creators. Streamers can create their own Fanboards page where fans can post messages, funny memes or clips and fans can interact with each other as they have a common interest. It also allows fans to discover other creators they did not know. Fanboards also has a clip aggregator, where top clips of registered streamers are automatically collected. This is a source of content for viewers, as well as a way to discover new streamers to follow.

In 6 months of its launch, the platform has got over 1,500 streamers on board with 40% of them from the USA, 40% from Europe, 15 % from S. Korea and 5 % from other Asian countries.

Another project they operate was a request directly from their streamers. Ideal Type world cup type games has been popular in Korea for several years. However, there isn’t one in English. So they developed uWuFUFU. A mini-game platform, starting with the ideal type world cup. Any user can create a world cup type elimination tournament bracket for any category they want. From favorite streamer, favorite games, to favorite K-POP artists, there are already over 200 mini tournaments listed. Streamers and creators play the tournaments during their stream with their viewers and has become a viral type content trending on YouTube and Twitch. Just searching ideal type tournament, you will get several results.

In five months, already over 140,000 games were played and people from all over the world are participating.

Pipeline Projects

The company has several projects in the pipeline such as Project “MICE” with image-Recognition & AR-based donations 4Q20, Project “FAST” with sound-based content donations 1Q21 and Project “VEGAS” with gamified donations 2Q22. Master.GG also plans to add new mini-gmes to the uWuFUFU platform. The company has already received a funding of $500,000 from angels and as the streamer inputs into their Open Broadcasting Software(OBS) the Master.GG overlay, streamers from all streaming platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, Caffeine, and Facebook can use the service. All these streaming platforms have millions of active users.
