Seoul Global Startup Center (SGSC)  and beSUCCESS Media group will be presenting the final pitch session of ‘SGSC 2021 Global Bootcamp’ on June 24th. The SGSC 2021 Global Bootcamp was organized virtually from June 7th to 18th, in which seven Korean startups participated. The event was created to help enterprising Korean startups connect with accelerators, mentors, businesses, etc., to support them to venture into the overseas market.

The program was held for six days, spread over two weeks, in which the seven participating startups were mentored to better their global outreach. The session’s topics included Building Local Community, Branding/Marketing, Sales & Distribution, Team Building, Building an IR deck, and a Final IR Pitch. The seven startups were divided into two groups as per their expansion aspirations to the USA and Southeast Asia (SEA) markets.

Korean startups participating in the 2021 SGSC Bootcamp are:

  1.  Apollo EduTech provides coding education through unplugged educational gaming.
  2.  BeAptive,which has designed the first-ever social media app for kids.
  3.  Kaesa, a luxury fashion accessories startup that has adopted sustainable materials & processes
  4.  oneCharge,which has developed an AI and Computer Vision Smart EV Charging System
  5.  StyleupK, a fashion e-commerce startup
  6. SDNetworks, a skincare & cosmetics products manufacturer & sales startup
  7.  Wcoding, a Korean startup, which offers coding boot camps & courses for everyone

On June 24th, a virtual event has been created for the SGSC 2021 Global Bootcamp participants, mentors, and general public. The SGSC 2021 Global Bootcamp finale will have all seven startups pitch their products and services in the presence of esteemed judges. Each startup will get to pitch for 5 mins followed by Q&A for 5 mins and feedback from the judges.

The judges who will be part of the finale event are:

Yi Ming Kau, Angel Investor & Venture Builder

Yi Ming Kau is an entrepreneur turned Angel Investor. He has been a founder of two startups in marketing analytics and education. Yi Ming Kau’s latest assignment has been with Singapore-based GrabRentals, the largest and most productive ride-hailing fleet in Singapore. A multi-disciplinarian with a background in engineering, finance and military operations and Yi Ming Kau says he thrives in VUCA environments.

Mohan Belani, Co-Founder and CEO at e27 

Mohan Belani

Mohan Belani co-founded e27, a startup and tech ecosystem platform focused on helping startup founders build and grow their companies. He believes that startups can make the world a better place, and in order for Southeast Asia’s tech ecosystem to be relevant, it needs to be driven by sustainable and impactful companies solving problems at scale. He enjoys working with founders and helping them alleviate the challenges of building great companies specifically around the areas of talent, funding and market access.

 

Anna Rehermann, Entrepreneur, Educator, Startup Growth Specialist

Anna Rehermann

Anna is a serial entrepreneur with a strong background in launching and growing businesses. Anna’s startup journey started 11 years ago at Rocket Internet and Team Europe Ventures, two leading global venture builders. She then founded Growth Hacking Asia, a regional training and consulting company with offices in 6 countries, focusing on product-led and data-driven growth strategies for startups and SMEs.

Anna is passionate about teaching and sharing her experience and skills and has developed and conducted training programs for startups, MNCs, government agencies and universities across Southeast Asia including Google, Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre and The National University of Singapore (NUS).

Winzendy Tedja, Founder and CEO at Yuna & Co

Winzendy Tedja co-founded a business that has grown from a mere five people company into now over 100 people strong in the market and grown its equity multiple times. Winzendy co-founded Yuna, fashion e-commerce, that acts as a virtual matchmaker for fashion consumers. Winzendy supports strategic thinking that combines with creative ideas that would deliver business objectives in a more relevant & contextual way. Also, a good communicator, Winzendy loves business and individual growth.

Rishi Chowdhury, Co-Founder at Incube – accelerating the journey to net-zero in real estate

Rishi believes in transforming the built world by bringing sustainable flexibility that can resolve the issue of carbon emissions. His company Incube creates smart modular walls that drastically cut embodied carbon emissions of a fit-out and make spaces adaptable by design. Having launched Cubes with Bosch in 2020 during the pandemic, Incube is looking to build on the accelerated trends and support the industry in sustainably maximizing the use of existing spaces, repurposing spaces to meet local needs and build in resilience. Rishi grew Incube out of his previous businesses, which supports the growth of startups and corporate innovation. He also advises startup growth programmes and accelerators globally.

Travis Boatman, CEO at Carbonated Inc.

Travis is co-founder and CEO of Carbonated, an LA-based mobile games studio. A 25-year veteran of the game industry (19 years in mobile), Travis has also served as SVP Mobile at Zynga and Electronic Arts, where he led global studios and mobile game strategy. Travis is also an angel investor and advisor for companies like Mattel, Rocket, Little Labs, Renzu, Bunch, USC School of Engineering, and featured in four Apple keynotes.

Aaron Everhart, Country Lead for Vietnam at Draper Startup House

Aaron Everhart is a serial entrepreneur with a background in corporate branding. He established HATCH! in 2012 to serve entrepreneurs in Vietnam. In 2021, HATCH! was acquired by Draper Venture unit, Draper Startup House, a global network of spaces connected to services, education, and investment with a combined vision and mission: ONE MILLION ENTREPRENEURS BY 2030. Aaron is a communications expert with 25 years in the field working in teams serving over 300 clients worldwide, many of which are Fortune 100 companies. He’s worked on projects for Accenture, AT&T, FedEx, PepsiCo, Frito-Lay, and Bao Viet.

Sunny Midha, Growth Investor, Media & Tech M&A Advisor

Sunny Midha is a New York based venture capitalist, a Principal at Principia Growth, a VC fund that focuses on B2B /enterprise technologies like Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Mobility, Robotics, and Delivery Platforms for consumers. Sunny has more 10+ years’ experience in M&A, capital markets, restructuring and venture capital across multiple platforms with Deutsche Bank (London), Houlihan Lokey (New York), Greycroft (Los Angeles) and Amplify.LA (Los Angeles). He holds a BSc in Economics from London School of Economics, MBA from the University of Southern California and a MS in Analytics from Harrisburg University. He is a BAFTA Scholar and avid filmmaker with multiple short film festival awards.

 

Kenneth Li, Managing Partner at MDI Pte. Ltd

Kenneth Li has a great interest in the startup scene in Indonesia. He has been an avid investors since early on in his career, and started his fund and has managed several private portfolios. Kenneth is the Managing Partner of MDI VC Singapore, and he is responsible for MDI Ventures Global Expansion and Fund Initiatives. He is one of the founding members of MDI ventures. His experience includes time at Deloitte and Systec VC, one of the earliest VC/venture builders in Indonesia. Subsequently, he also manages several private funds throughout his career. There are currently two funds that actively operate under his management.

James Jung, Founder at beSUCCESS Media Network

James Jung

James Jung is the founder of beSUCCESS media platform that focusses on startups and ventures in Korea. beSUCCESS introduces Korean startups and ventures to a global audience through its English & Korean media sites including KoreaTechDesk. Furthermore, beSUCCESS offers opportunities for Korean startups and ventures to meet other startups, ventures and investors abroad through events and partnerships. James has an extensive experience in the world of startups and has co-designed the SGSC 2021 Global Bootcamp.

2021 Seoul Global Startup Center (SGSC) Global Bootcamp Final Event – June 24th

The Seoul Global Startup Center was founded in July 2016 with funding provided by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and is jointly operated by startup accelerator N15 and WeWorkLabs Korea. Based in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, the organization offers various kinds of support for global startups ranging from office spaces and funding vouchers to mentoring services. Seoul GSC is established to serve as the foreigner-friendly startup hub to ease the challenges foreign entrepreneurs face as they start and run their businesses in Korea. As part of the 2021 SGSC Global Bootcamp, the accelerator will support three startups each targeting the US and South East Asia markets.
