HTHT 2021 AIEd conference final day include talks on technology for higher-education

The concluding day at the High Touch High Tech (HTHT) 2021 conference  about AI in Education, co-hosted by Riiid,  leading Korean AI education company, Education Commission Asia, and TV Chosun, covered higher education institutes like universities and colleges. The program highlighted the emergence of technology in universities, colleges, specialized educational institutes during the COVID-19 times and its continuance in the future. University heads, college professors, subject experts, mentors gave presentations regarding the high-touch, high-tech change in the field of higher education and discussed various outcomes.

HTHT 2021 Conference, held from June 29th to July 2nd, focused on leveraging AIEd to narrow the achievement gap in education. The HTHT 2021 Conference hosted 150 speakers and panelists from ten nations across the EdTech ecosystem–global organizations, governments, academia, foundations, EdTech innovators, schools, parents, and students–to discuss the potential of AI in addressing the global learning crisis further exacerbated by COVID19.

‘Technology should enhance learning experience’

The event began with Keynote speeches moderated by Ju Lo Hee, Chairman of the Asian Education Association, where academic leaders of institutes in different countries talked about high-tech, high-touch elements in education.

Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University, spoke about transformation in education because of hi-tech and enhancing learning in the future.

“Anything we do with technology is not meant to labour reducing or labour replacing; it is meant to enhance student outcome and also to free our faculty to become more creative and research-intensive,” said Crow as he covered the topic of enhancing education by adapting technology.

David Garza, President, Monterrey Institute of Technology, Mexico, continued the case, emphasizing challenges in learning experiences and ways to overcome them through technology use. Park Hyung-Joo, President of Ajou University, discussed the impact of the pandemic, remote learning, and strategies to update teaching with technology.

In other sessions, topics that were included were the University Revolution and the Role of the Teaching and Learning Center, Hollywood’s Dreamscape Metaverse Introduced To Arizona State University’s Biology Course, Realizing successful student-tailored education: Introduction to Arizona State University (ASU) ‘s HTHT Math Lecture Operation Case, How is Western Governors University (WGU) introducing competency-based education, the world’s largest online university? and Quality Education for all: An introduction to learning experiences and achievement improvement models through cutting-edge technology at Germany’s largest university.

The sessions included detailed presentations about case studies at various universities where technology was implemented to enhance learning. Representatives from multiple international universities like Arizona University, Midwestern University, Induk University, Dartmouth College, Georgetown University, etc., participated in the talks.

Round table and workshops 

The concluding day of HTHT 2021 had the most workshops for stakeholders in the education sector compared to other days. There were three different workshops with representatives from Korea’s educational institutes that held discussions. The workshops included topics HTHT, How It Is Applied: A Case of the HTHT University Consortium, Examples of online/offline FLEX project classes between Johns Hopkins University and the US National Institutes of Health, Asking the direction Korean universities should take: Cyber ​​University and Lifelong Education. A round table talk about “In the era of accelerating university innovation, what is the choice of Korean universities?” was also part of the program on July 2nd.
