Day 1 of South Korea’s most prominent startup festival, COMEUP 2021, saw a gala opening event with several insightful panel discussions, expert talks, startup pitches, presentations, mentoring talks, Q & A sessions, and more.
This year’s event is a mixture of online and offline sessions organized to strengthen communication and exchanges between startups, global investors, and global companies.
The 3-day long global startup festival is Asia’s most distinguished startup event. COMEUP 2021 edition has been organized under the futuristic theme of “Meet the Future – Transformation” to address the challenges and the course corrections that startups had to endure internationally to be in tandem with the rapid changes the post-covid world is witnessing.
It is a platform for global startups and Korean startups to expand their horizons by meeting global investors, agencies, mentors, attending discussions, and more.
Laplace Technologies (James Park, CEO)
Laplace is an AI dashboard service for commerce. Laplace analytics detects business problems and automatically recommends business strategies. Various statistics solutions platforms detect the issue, but these applications fail to provide ideas to solve the problems. Around 4.3 million Korean Won is spent finding solutions to commercial issues through analytics. The cost is so high that many small and medium enterprises detect the issue and use their insight to reach a solution. That is where Laplace Technologies’ real-time analytics comes in handy.
3 PM (Jisoon Lim, CEO)
The music industry alone in the US has reached a 20 trillion market, and there was a little hiccup sometime back, but it again got on track with the introduction of streaming services. The same trend is now engulfing Korea, and K-Pop plays a big role in it. Since 2014 a trend that has become popular among K-Pop stars is that of owning albums. However, producing an album is a resource-rich task and give rise to a lot of carbon emission. Hence to sort this issue of owning original albums sans environmental pollution is to bring in the non-fungible token (NFT) in the music industry and 3 PM is working on those lines.
Yellosis (Yu Kyung Tak, CEO)
Yellosis, is a spin-off from Samsung C-Lab that was introduced in 2012 to promote a creative corporate culture and explore employees’ innovative ideas. As part of the company’s in-house venture incubation program, Samsung employees got promoted by C-Lab Inside to start on their own. Yellosis is a home IoT (Internet of Things)-based urine inspection system that helps systematic health management and provides accessible daily healthcare management facilities to its customers.
Artwa (Dongwoo Kang, CEO)
The company wants to become the meteorological center for water quality management with its mobile inspection water bots integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) based analytics system. The company is developing technology for water quality management and saving water bodies from Algae bloom in the summers. The company aims to mitigate the cost of manual collection and testing of water samples by simplifying its bots and AI analytics tools.
CLROBUR (Taein Choi, CEO)
CLROBUR is trying to build an innovative droneway, which serves citizens and people smart lives based on the new millennium mobility. It started in July 2019 to draw a dream in the air. Clrobur drone is all about accuracy and safety. It has developed a web-based 4D Ground Control Platform (GCP) that simultaneously supports the autonomous operation of multiple drones of different types. The company is working tirelessly with various partners to lead the future drone market.
Fullstack (Q Lee, CEO)
Fullstack’s application Argos KYC provides a KYC solution that covers over 200 countries. There are various languages to distinguish and Argos KYC runs an AI technology for the verification process. Also, information on the ID is auto-extracted with the OCR tool. There are human experts who can give extra reliability to the KYC results. The combination of AI technology and expert review makes the verifying process strong and reliable. By machine learning, Argos KYC can verify 1,400 ID documents automatically. When human experts are added, 4,000 ID documents can be verified.
