In 2015, when Korean startup Croquis Inc. team had launched the shopping app ZigZag, they hadn’t probably imagined the success it will have in five years. The women’s fashion shopping app – ZigZag is now one of the top shopping apps in South Korea with over 30 million shoppers registered with it. The Fashion app exceeded 30 million cumulative downloads for the first time in 2021. It’s been about a year since it recorded 20 million downloads in February 2020.

ZigZag has launched a massive brand campaign starting April 2021 to commemorate the cumulative 30 million downloads.

A ZigZag official said in a media statement, “We have prepared a large-scale brand campaign and discount event for customers who have created a meaningful number of 30 million. I have prepared it, so I hope for a lot of interest.”

Korean internet giant Kakao is all set to acquire a stake in the fashion e-commerce Zigzag app startup Croquis. Kakao announced its plan to spin off a style business division by merging its subsidiary Kakao Commerce with Croquis.

4000, Shopping Malls, 5.8 Million Brands

The ZigZag app is like a shopping mall with thousands of options available on your palm-size smartphone. Especially in times of the COVID-19 pandemic when shopping outdoor has not been an option, such an app with a variety of brands is a winner. Hence, the explanation for the ZigZag app’s 50% increase in users from 2019 to 2020.

ZigZag App

Cool inter-face, smart features

ZigZag app’s interface is user-friendly especially for women, who enjoy going through many options before choosing the one that fits best or simply to get some fashion inspiration. It has over 4,000 shopping malls and 5. 8 million brands available. The ZigZag app also has features like Favourites, My Products, folders where you can put your wish list and check it later. The app also guides you with better matches for your chosen products using algorithms as per the user’s shopping pattern. The app also ranks the shopping malls and brands and sorts them into different categories like winter, spring, tops, bottoms, skirts, Casual, formal, etc.

Quick registration, high rating & rave reviews

Since there are many brands and items from various shopping malls, the shopping catalogue is huge and has numerous styles. There are major brands and minor local brands, some you might not have heard of. One cool thing about this app is that you can purchase all your clothes through this app and you don’t need to have to make an account for each shopping mall differently. Just one registration through a valid phone number and you are a registered ZigZag shopper.

The app available for both iOs and Android phones has got 4.5 ratings on Apple Store and Google Play. While the ZigZag App has some brands shipping Korean fashion overseas, sadly the app doesn’t have an English version yet. However, consumers across the world are scrolling through the various options and demanding the English version. Hopefully, Croquis Inc. shall soon get an English language option out for its international customers.

Becoming Korea’s favourite app for fashion shopping

While the international customers await the English version from ZigZag, in South Korea, the ZigZag app has done tremendously well. Starting from a few hundred customers to having billions in a short span of 5 years is a big deal. As per the 2020 shopping data of ZigZag, users who bought the most from the app did it so 14 times in a single month. The total purchases per the most shopaholic user were 604 pieces an average of 1.5 pieces per day. The item that was sold most in 2020 were pants and the most preferred colour was black.

ZigZag app’s target market is females from age 15 to 59 years old, but its biggest customer base, for now, is the Gen Z and millennial women, who love the quick & tech-savvy features over offline shopping mall wanderings. The app is expected to post 800 billion won about $724 million worth of transactions in 2020, up 33% from 2019. Experts attribute this rise to its ability to provide services that satisfy Gen Z and Millennials. Among the top five online Korean fashion apps Musinsa Co., W Concept, Zigzag, Ably, and Brandi, ZigZag is behind only Musinsa. What sets ZigZag apart from other apps is its recommendation feature, which pulls out customized search results when the user logs in to the app as per their age, preferred style, and buying pattern. With a fulfilling 2020, ZigZag App has all the ingredients to become the number one fashion shopping app in Korea in 2021. Will it lead the numbers game? Check this space for it.
