EVAR Achieves Certification for Smart EV Charger 2.0 with Advanced Fire Detection

EVAR, Inc., based in the 2nd Pangyo Techno Valley in Seongnam City (CEO Lee Hun), has obtained a test report for the fire detection function test conducted by the Korea Fire Institute under the National Fire Agency for its Smart EV Charger 2.0.

The fire detection function test report is a document that certifies the specific type of flame detector and shows the results of testing on the technical standards. It is an official report issued by the Korea Fire Institute.

EVAR’s Smart EV Charger 2.0 (model name: ELA007C02) was released in May 2023 and is a product that uses the company’s own dynamic load-balancing technology. Smart EV Charger 2.0, a 7kW slow charger, is evaluated as a product that will help expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. It is currently being supplied nationwide. Its smart fire detection feature has been designated as an innovative prototype of 2023 by the Public Procurement Service.

EVAR’s smart fire detection solution is equipped with more than twice as many sensors as other chargers that only measure their internal temperature, so it can determine whether a fire has occurred by detecting flame, temperature, and infrared waves. The moment a fire occurs, the charger operation stops immediately, and not only does it stop the operation of other nearby chargers, but it also transmits information to the control center, helping firefighters effectively respond to the fire.

In addition, EVAR also unveiled a premium edition 7kW and 11kW slow charger product line with an NTC (Negative Temperature Sensor) feature built into the charging cable. When the temperature of the charging port rises to a certain level, the charge amount can be adjusted, and when the temperature rises more rapidly, charging is automatically stopped, preventing the so-called ‘welding’ phenomenon where the connector melts and sticks.

EVAR CEO Lee Hun said, “EVAR’s motto is ‘safety.’ Our products not only help firefighters respond by quickly detecting flames but can also prevent fires by preventing overheating of cables and connectors. All of these features are in line with our company’s motto to ensure ‘safety.’” He went on, “According to the Ministry of Environment’s announcement last June, 80 billion won in the national budget was allocated to provide subsidies for fire prevention chargers for electric vehicles next year. Because we were the first in the industry to obtain a test report related to fire detection, our company can emphasize the reliability, quality, and differentiated functions of our products. Smart EV Charger 2.0 will become a new standard for safe EV chargers.”
