Korean startup Willim‘s 3linediary app is an emotional content platform that helps users capture their life experiences in three lines and a photo. The short-and-sweet option is a refreshing change from cumbersome diary writing that takes a long time. The Android version of 3linediary, the brainchild of computer engineer Bae Joon-ho, was launched in 2016 through his personal experience of diary writing during a round-the-world trip.
Unlike other journal apps, 3linediary limits each diary entry to three lines and users can set entries as either private or public or share them anonymously with other users. 3linediary has had over 500,000 accumulated downloads since its launch. The iOS version and English version will soon be available.
The app has found huge popularity among the youth with over 1 million app downloads and 600,000 users since July 2019. In the last 6 months, the app has recorded 46% Monthly Active Users (MAU) and its content upload per DAU (Daily Active User) is 5 times more than Facebook. About 70% of teenagers, mostly women, are the main users of the app.
In September, the company launched the first paid premium service where users can decorate their entries with stickers and download them as PDF files and has achieved 600 subscriptions. The app offers a 10,000-image gallery and emoticons and has plans to open an ‘Illustrated Image Market’.
A promising future
The app will also offer emotional advertisement solutions and is developing its ad beta version for a government project that will use AI-based advertising solutions. It also hopes to predict users’ emotions by using a deep learning system which can record their Emotional Change Analysis.
The app has already won several awards already. It was chosen as the Best iPhone App in 2019 and the Best Google App in 2017 and 2019. The company plans to expand the global market by launching a beta version of English based on its performance in Korea and hopes to add North America, Europe and Oceania regions.
